A charming oil on panel painting of a couple meeting. The painting is typical of the period with a certain romanticism given to rural life. The figures are very well painted and indeed the whole is by a capable hand with fine work in the light fading from the centre out. The painting is not signed as is often the case with this type of commercial provincial painting. The work has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The painting retains the original painted frame and slip and the whole gives a great period look. C.1830.
