Lover's Leap, Buxton, Oil Painting by Charles Wilde

A fine and dramatic oil on canvas painting by Charles Wilde (exh 1880-1901) depicting Lover's Leap near Buxton. The painting shows a dramatic gorge and limestone cliffs, it would have been painted plein air and the rendering of the light hitting the cliffs is finely done. The work is signed to the lower left C.Wilde. Charles Wilde was a Nottingham artist and member of the Nottingham School of Art, he exhibited an amazing 113 works at Nottingham Castle. The painting has been professionally cleaned and two minor holes repaired. The work is in the original fine quality frame which has all the original gilding and gives a great country house look. The painting is not dated but would be C.1890.
