Description

A very fine French 19th Century pre impressionist river landscape, depicting Rouen and its "Ile Lacroix", an island on the river Seine. In the 19th century, it was home to "guinguettes" , open air restaurants that also served as dance venues. It is depicted in paintings by Albert Lebourg and by many of the international artists who came to paint in Normandy.

Cleaned and restored, our painting has a faint trace of signature at the lower left, which I have unfortunately not been able to identify. Measuring 38 x 61 cm, the overall framed size is 57 x 69 cm.
