Pair of Mid 19th-century Continental Portraits

Description

A fine pair of his and hers portraits dating to around 1840. She wears a beautiful red dress, which emphasises her low sloping shoulders, along with a crucifix attached to a coral necklace.

While he wears a black frock coat with a white necktie and upstanding collars.

The portraits are housed within their original gilded frames, which feature highly decorative corner ornaments.

Medium: Oil on board

Size including frames: 17¼” x 15” / 44cm x 38cm

Year of creation: c. 1840

Provenance: Germany

Condition: Light craquelure in areas but otherwise fine. Frames with age-related wear, a few small losses and repairs.
