Walter Roof Tyndale RI,RBA 1853-1943.Painter of architectural subjects, and topographical landscapes,portraits and genre working almost exclusively in watercolour.Born Bruges,Belgium.Much influenced by Claude Hayes and Helen Allingham who was a friend.Travelled to Morocco,Egypt,Lebanon,Damascus,Sicily and Italy and Japan,and became well-known for his finely detailed watercolours of Egyptian temples,Tunisian streets,Italian townscapes and other topographical subjects.He held many exhibitions: at the Leicester Galleries in 1912-‘An Artist In Egypt’; at Waring and Gillows in 1913-watercolours of Egypt and Japan-and at the Fine Art Society In 1920 and 1924.Exhibited from 1880 at the RA,SS,NWS,and elsewhere.He also illustrated many topographical books,chiefly for the publishers A and C. Black Ltd. including an ‘An Artist in Egypt,’ 1912 ‘Japanese Gardens’ 1912,’Dalmatian Coast’ ;
