Description

A vibrant oil on canvas depicting an abstracted marine landscape with boats by André Raffin (1927-2005).

Raffin was one of the most noted Normandy artists of the second half of the 20th Century, and worked in the tradition of the previous generations Normandy masters - Boudin, Othon-Friez and even Monet - while adding a modernist twist.

Exhibiting for the first time in Paris aged 20, at the Salon d'Automne in 1947, Raffin obtained numerous distinctions, including the "Prix de la jeune peinture" for promising young artists. In the UK, he was represented by Wimbledon Fine Arts.

The painting presented here is an oil on canvas from 1963-64, measuring 38 x 46cm. Signed and dated on the recto, it is signed again and titled "Eau et Barques" (Water and boats) on the verso. Presented in a good custom frame, the overall framed size is 43 x 51cm.
