Large Portrait Oil Painting After Rembrandt by W.h.partridge

A large and impressive oil painting after Rembrandt's self-portrait age 34 painted in 1640. The painting is a large and imposing copy of this old master work and is painted to the highest level. The painting is in great untouched condition with a couple of minor holes having been professionally repaired. The painting is not signed but is inscribed by the artist on the reverse and reads: 'Rembrandt portrait of himself copied by W.H.Partridge...... July 1906'. The artist is most likely the American artist William Henry Partridge 1858-1938.

William H. Partridge was a born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1858 and is known to have lived in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He studied art at the Massachusetts School of Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School. He was a member of the Boston Art Club, the Springfield Art Institute, the Gloucester Society of Artists, and the Business Men's Art Club of Boston. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club in 1874. His work is represented at the Wellesley Public Library in Wellesley, Massachusetts and at the Greenville County Museum of Art.

The painting is mounted in a superb period gilt frame in great untouched condition with all the original gilding. There is a small label to the bottom dedicated to Rembrandt.
