Description

A delicate, elegant Italian landscape which has the uncanny power to transports one, as if by magic, right into its scenery - one can almost hear the crickets and sense the silence of the mountains in the background.

Of extremely fine quality, the painting dates presumably from around 1870, the third quarter of the 19th Century.

It is unsigned, and I have not found and attribution, but an inscription on the stretcher - which also bears an old exhibition or inventory number - situates the landscape in the mountainous province of Rieti, in the Lazio region

Acquired in Paris, the painting is possibly the work a travelling French artist.

An oil on canvas relined, the painting measures 16.5 x 23cm. Presented in a modern frame, the overall framed size is 24 x 31cm
