Fine Regency Oil Portrait of a Lady

A fine and charming small oil on panel portrait of a lady, dating to the Regency period. The work is typical of the period and is exquisitely detailed, with wonderful work on the lace shawl and bonnet. The lady is shown dressed in her finest clothes and standing in a fantasy background with gardens and battlements. The painting is not signed and this is typical of this type of portraiture, it is however painted on a panel by Brown's of Holborn who produced artist materials for the Royal Academy at this time, indicating the quality of the artist. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in good condition, with a slight craquelure in places again typical of this period. The painting retains the original gilt frame. The frame is of excellent quality and has the original gilding with some wear. There are some repairs to the frame again typical for a frame of this age. The whole has a wonderful period look and an enormous charm. C.1820.
