Oil Portrait of a Young Man in Renaissance Dress

A fine nineteenth century oil on canvas portrait of a young man in Renaissance dress. It is most likely that this is a copy of a late Renaissance original but I have been unable to identify the original work. It was a common practice for artists to copy old master paintings often while in front of the originals. The is a particularly good example with a good use of light, shade and colour. The portrait is mounted in the original gilt frame which is of a large, dramatic size, and in great untouched condition, including the gilding. The whole has a great period country house look that would work in a variety of interiors. The painting has been professionally cleaned and the whole is ready to hang.
