A fine and decorative French oil on panel depicting the ancient Greek myth of Leda and the Swan. The work is done on a finely prepared chestnut panel. The work is in oval with a border of a dark reddish brown. The painting is signed to the lower part of the oval and appears to read ''Paul Eilaine'' an artist I have been unable to identify. The quality of the work is very high, the nude figure is beautifully and realistically observed. I particularly like the colour palette of autumnal colours. The work is framed in a period carved and gilded frame, contemporaneous with the painting. The whole is a great eye-catching piece and a beautiful representation of this classical myth.
