A dramatic depiction of a fiery cavalry battle by a provincial 18th-century Flemish artist. In the foreground, a white horse is falling amid a chaotic flurry of swords and activity. Its rider lays prone on the ground as several of his comrades fight for their lives.

In the distance, an old windmill stands quietly and still - in sharp contrast to the action before it.

The painting is housed within a gilded wooden and stucco swept frame with decorative floral embellishments.

Size including frame: 15” x 12” / 38cm x 32cm x 4cm

Year of creation: c. 1750

Condition: The painting has been professionally restored and relined within the last 50 years. Craquelure. Frame with some small losses and cracks.
