French Barbizon Woodland Autumn Landscape with Rocks, Fontainebleau Forest 1887 Antique Oil on Canvas

Description

A strong, atmospheric autumn landscape dating from the 19th century, very much in the style of the Barbizon artist colony painters. Acquired near Paris, it is very likely a scene from the forest of Fontainebleau, renowned for its rocks.

An oil on its original canvas, the artwork is signed de Rozeville at the lower left and dated 1887.

While there is some damage, repair and craquelure to the lower left of the painting, much of it is hidden by the fold of the frame. Measuring 35 x 28.5 cm, the overall size in a gold leaf frame is 42 x 35 cm
