A fine watercolour by Belgian artist Pierre Abattucci 1871-1942. The painting is a head and shoulders portrait of a young woman in simple dress, hair festooned with garlands of flowers. The painting has very much the look of a Pre Raphaelite type work with an ethereal sitter gazing out at the viewer. The painting is in good condition with bright fresh colours. There is a slight line around the work from an old mount, this is not distracting to the eye. The watercolour is mounted in a Victorian period ebonised frame which works exceptionally well with the painting and gives the whole a dramatic decorative impact.Pierre Abattucci was a Belgian artist associated with the Neo-Impressionism movement. He is known for his atmospheric landscapes, which captured shifts in colour, light, and shadow in both cities and the countryside, this work is therefore quite unusual and probably from his earlier career.
