Floral Still Life with Roses, Fantin Latour-like Impressionist Bouquet Oil on Canvas by Latouche

If you have always dreamt of owning a Fantin Latour, this 19th century still life may be the painting for you. - I would argue that its quality is just as fine.

It is a stunning, elegant work by Louis Latouche (1829-1883), a rare artist who, as a painter and art dealer was at the heart of the not yet fashionable Impressionist movement in Paris.

Latouche had a shop selling art supplies at the corner of rue Lafitte and rue Lafayette - but no just any old shop: Camille Pissaro and the Docteur Gachet count among his clients! Latouche hosts exhibitions, and it is on his premises that the idea of a "Salon of the Rejects" (Salon des Refusés) was born, supported by Sisley and Renoir. Latouche's clients are also his friends: young artists with who he visits the seaside and exchanges ideas.

An artist himself, he exhibits with Durand-Ruel alongside his friends until 1876, as well as at the Salon. He also took part in the "First Exhibition of Impressionist Painters" in 1870 at the studio of the photographer Nadar.

An oil on canvas, the painting measures 27 x 22 cm. In a beautiful period gold leaf frame in the overall framed size is 45 x 39 cm.
