Description

A stylish portrait of a seated lady wearing a purple coat, light green gloves and a cloche with an upturned brim. She’s dressed to impress in the fashion-a-la-mode and sits elegantly poised in a mahogany chair.

The artist, Carl Ljungberg (1897-1973), hailed from Sweden and painted many portraits, predominantly women, throughout the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

The painting is signed/dated in the top right and housed within what appears to be its original frame. An interesting inscription on the stretcher refers to the preparation of the canvas.

Size including frame: 24” x 18” / 61cm x 48cm

Year of creation: 1932

Provenance: Sweden

Condition: Very good overall. Frame with light age-related wear.
