An enormously charming oil on canvas of a donkey, which is titled ''Cynthia''. The painting is beautifully worked and observed with a lavishly done title at the bottom. The painting is signed and dated to the bottom, 1896. The artist is F.Lewis, it has been difficult to identify the artist as it is such a common name but there were a family of painters by that name in Liverpool and it is likely to be one of those. The painting has been professionally cleaned and minor scuffs touched in. It is mounted in a fine Victorian period gilt frame and has a modern gilt slip. The frame is in excellent untouched condition with all original gilding. The whole is wonderfully worked with a great warmth and decorative appeal.
