Bolton Abbey Oil Painting by Alfred Elsworth

A fine and bright oil on canvas painting of Bolton Abbey, by the artist Alfred Elsworth, Exh 1903-09. The painting shows a beautiful landscape scene of Bolton Abbey with the river to the foreground, the light on the Abbey in the distance is particularly pleasing. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a small repair made, it is in excellent ready to hang condition. The work has been mounted in a period gilt frame of quite large size which draws the eye into the painting. The frame is in good original condition with some minor old repairs. The work is signed and dated 1901. Alfred Elsworth was a Leeds based artist and he appears to only have exhibited at the Royal Academy, the most prestigious of all! The painting is a great work of English Impressionism and of a great subject.
