Superb Oil Painting Of Gun Dogs By Colin Graeme

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A superb oil on canvas painting of setters in a moorland landscape, with dead grouse by highly regarded sporting artist Colin Graeme Roe 1858-1910. The painting shows a dramatic landscape with cloudy sky and heather patches, and in the centre are two setters (a favourite subject of the artist) with two dead grouse and a large game bag. The painting is signed to the lower left ''Colin Graeme'' he dropped the Roe on later paintings to distinguish himself from other members of his family. He was a prolific painter of sporting animals and scenes and originated from the Sheffield area of Yorkshire. The work has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition, it does have some old support patches on the back of the canvas. The painting is framed in the original gilt frame, which again is in excellent untouched condition. A great example of the artist''s work and full of decorative appeal with a wonderful country house look. C.1900.
