Hungarian Surrealist Endre Balint Horse-cartwheel-house-sun Abstract Print, 1960

Description

A poetic and unusual Monotype (?) by Hungarian painter and printmaker Endre 'André' Balint (1914-1986) who, in 1947 participated in second surrealist world exhibition in Paris organised by André Breton, along the likes of Marcel Duchamp.

After periods of staying temporarily in Paris, Balint lived there on a permanent basis from 1957 to 1961. It is during this time that the "Horse-Cartwheel-House-Sun" here presented was created, in Balint's extremely personal style: he incorporated memories of his childhood with internal landscapes from his dreams.

From 1959 onwards Balint painted his most important works, including the Miraculous Fishing, the Dream in the Public Park and I Walked Here, illustrating his unique form of late surrealism.

The artwork prsented here is signed, dated XII (1)960 and dedicated in French to "pour M.Larsen" (?). Measuring 22 x 17 cm at sight, the overall size in a simple gallery clip frame is 33 x 29cm
