Oil Painting Portrait 'Lunchtime'

A charming and hugely decorative oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman setting down to a rustic lunch. The painting is not signed and is most likely continental in origin judging by the canvas and stretcher. The painting is just full of character and is painted to a high standard. I love the way the man looks directly out of the painting towards the viewer raising a glass and the way the table is laid out with a simple lunch of salad and bread. The painting has been professionally cleaned and some small holes repaired. The frame is a period bird's eye maple frame which has a great figuring and original patina. The title is not written on the work but has been known as 'Lunchtime' by tradition. The whole is highly decorative and most unusual, it would make an excellent work for a kitchen or dining room. C.1880.
