There are two mysteries to ponder on with this portrait.
Perhaps it signifies that the subject was a keen correspondent, or maybe it relates to an important event in her life?
Secondly, on the reverse of the painting, there’s a torn London and Southwestern Railway sticker, but it’s unclear where the portrait travelled from or to. The destination could have been Birmingham but it’s tricky to tell.
Wherever it’s been, it’s certainly a little worse for wear and has taken several knocks over the last 170 years. But in our opinion, its history only adds to its overall charm.
