Victorian Winter Scene Oil Painting By John Edwards

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine example of the work of John ‘Snowy’ Edwards, the painting shows a typical winter scene looking through a gap in a hedge towards a cottage in the distance, I particularly like the rabbit warren and feeding rabbits at the base of the tree. The work is signed ‘J Edwards’ to the lower left he was a Nottingham based artist who was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists, he exhibited between 1880-1909 and he is well known for winter landscapes of the Nottingham area. The painting in oils on canvas has had some minor professional restoration to stabilise, evidenced by the supporting patches on the reverse of the canvas. The painting retains what appears to be the original frame though it has been re-gilt at some point. The whole is a great example of a winter scene and has a beautiful period look. C.1890.
