At the time of Burkhardt’s studies, the Academy Julian had become a vibrant hub for leading modern artists and it’s possible that he may have attended at the same time as Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) and Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940).
The portrait bears the estate stamp of the artist on the reverse and is housed within a painted wooden frame.
