Scottish Oil Painting By Henry Morley

A fine oil on canvas depicting horses and carts returning with timber by Henry Morley 1869-1937. The work is typical of the artist with great use of colour in an impressionist manner. The painting is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned.
 
Henry Morley 1869-1937 was born in Nottingham but is most closely associated with Scotland and Stirling where he lived and worked for a long time. He studied at the Nottingham school of art and the Juliens in Paris. He married the artist Isobel Miller Hutchinson in 1901 after settling in Scotland. The couple where heavily influenced by the arts and crafts movement and entertained within these circles, including Charles Rennie Mackintosh. He exhibited widely and regularly including a staggering 77 times at the Glasgow school of art and 48 times at the Royal Scottish Academy.
 
The painting is mounted in the original dramatic swept frame which has had some old repairs but is in ready to hang condition.
