A large and very decorative oil on canvas of sheep in a Highland landscape by John W. Morris. A superb painting with beautifully observed animals and a great dramatic landscape backdrop. The painting is typical of the work of the artist and a very good example. John W. Morris (1865-1924) was a prolific and highly sort after specialist animal painter. The painting has been cleaned and a small repair made but overall is untouched condition. The frame is the original and is in great condition with some over-gilding and light repair. The whole is in ready to hang country house condition and gives the quintessential English stately home look. C.1890.
