Insects of Surinam 18th Century Hand Coloured Engravings

Description

This is a wonderful pair of hand coloured engravings of insects which date from the early 18th Century. The engravings, are by Jan Pieter Sluyter (1675- 1713) after the original work by the German artist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647 - 1717).

The engravings are in excellent condition. They are framed in substantial painted solid wood frames and have smart gilt edge mounts.These measure 55 cms by 42 cms.

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
