Beautiful Florentine Antique Painting of Angel 18th Century

Description

This is a truly joyous late 18th century icon, most beautifully painted and gilded on a solid pinewood arched panel. The angel is probably an Italian Grand Tour painting, after Fra Angelico. It is in excellent condition, remarkably so bearing in mind it’s age and it has a rare beauty with delightful colours and subject matter. The angels wings are depicted as peacock feathers and are hand tooled with subtle chiselled detail. The robes are in a lovely warm red and looking heavenwards, the angel blows a gilded trumpet.

The panel has a signature in pencil to the reverse and what appears to be the date 1730.

The panel measures 67 cms by 29 cms wide.
