Folk Art Oil Painting of Boston, Lincolnshire

A very interesting and decorative oil on canvas painting of Boston, Lincolnshire, with the famous ‘Stump’ tower front and centre. A charming naive or folk art study which would have been painted by a local craftsman etc. The canvas stretcher is very primitive and roughly cut, and the nature of the perspective is charmingly simple. There are some very interesting details in the work including the early steam train in the distance and the figures at work on the docks. The painting has been professionally cleaned and lined to conserve it and has a great period look. The work is mounted in a period bird’s eye maple frame which has a lovely colour and rich patina. The whole has a great primitive folk art look and is ready to hang. C.1850.
