A gentle British countryside scene by Victorian artist, Charles James Parry (1824-1894). It depicts a series of cottages dotted along a country track, which is partially shaded by a canopy of trees. Two women are nattering over a picket fence and one has her right hand perched on her hip.

Charles James Parry was a London-born artist who was primarily known for his landscapes. He was the son of painter Joseph Parry (1744-1826) and exhibited from around 1881, including five times at the Royal Academy.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a handsome swept foliate frame.
