Equestrian Portrait: Ismael, 1878 Antique French Horse Painting Oil on Board

Description

A charming antique portrait of a horse named "Ismael", whose distinctive mark is one white sock on his left hind leg!

French in origin, and painted in 1878, the painting is monogrammed TC or TE at the lower left, but I have not been able to identify the artist. An oil on board, the artwork measures 24 x 29 cm. It is presented in its original frame. As you will notice on the photo of the verso, the back of the frame suffered from woodworm a long time ago, and not recently. The overall framed size is 33 x 39cm.
