Oil Painting Of A Nude By Georges Aufray

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine and decorative oil on board of a nude by french artist Georges Aufray (1864-1941). The painting is typical of the Art Deco period and the balance of colour with the bright red fabric against the skin is wonderful. The painting has a fine and pastille feel, painted with dry oil paint that gives the whole a dreamy atmosphere. The work is signed to the lower left. Georges Aufray was born in Ecouen a small village outside Paris. He studied under his father Joseph Aufrey. He did exhibit at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris between 1928-1939, where he received an honourable mention in 1931 and a silver medal in 1934.

The painting is in excellent condition and ready to hang. The work also retains the original exhibition label on the reverse for the Salon de Tuileries in Paris. The frame is also an Art Deco period frame with a gilded outer frame and silvered slip.

The whole has a great decorative look and a particularly Deco style and elegance. C.1930.
