Large Landscape Oil Painting by Frantisek Cina-jelinek

A large and very decorative oil on canvas landscape painting by Czech artist Frantisek Cina-Jelinek (1882-1961). The painting shows a ruined castle on a hill surrounded by a small town. The season is Spring with blossom on the tress and either dusk or dawn. The landscape is extensive with much detail of fields and houses way off into the distance. The castle is most likely Rabi Castle in the Czech Republic. The painting style is much influenced by Impressionism with a wide use of colour and broad brushstrokes to capture the dreamy light. The painting is signed to the lower left.

Frantisek Cina-Jelinek was born in Prague and studied at the Prague Academy. His work was realistic and romantic and he painted natural pictures of the landscape outdoors in rural areas. He is highly regarded in his home country and his work is represented in many galleries and museums there.

The painting is in excellent untouched condition with a typical craquelure, the colours bright and clear. The frame is the original and again in excellent untouched condition with typical wear to the gilding.

This is a large and dramatic painting that makes a great decorative impact. C.1930.
