A charming Regency period portrait miniature depicting a lady wearing an elegant white dress and a coral necklace.

She’s holding a red book with her right index finger propping open a page, which is generally an indication that the sitter is proud of her literacy. Perhaps it’s a copy of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility? (published in 1811).

It’s interesting to note that the lady is sitting before a handsome neoclassical pillar and a beautiful natural garden. During the Regency period, and following the French revolution, elegance and classical simplicity had replaced decadence and indulgence.

The portrait is housed within a period ebonised frame with an acorn and oak leaf hanger.

Condition: Age-related wear to the bezel and frame.
