Winter Scene Oil Painting by Frederick Golden Short

A fine and unusual example of the work of the artist Frederick Golden Short. The painting shows a typical New Forest scene, which the artist painted almost exclusively, however this is painted in Winter which is unusual. The work shows a woodland covered in a blanket of snow and is painted in a loose and confident manner. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is signed to the lower right, It is not dated but would be around 1900. Frederick Golden Short exhibited between 1882-1908, he lived in Lyndhurst and painted almost exclusively in that area and the New Forest. He exhibited 4 works at the Royal Academy and 20 at the Royal Institute of painters in oils as well as at many other places. His works are highly desirable and collected, particularly in the Hampshire area. The painting is mounted in a modern frame which works very well with colouring of the work. A fine and unusual example and a beautiful painting in itself.
