An interesting and decorative marine oil on artist''s board, depicting a ship in stormy conditions off Ailsa Craig. The painting is very finely painted and to give the impression of utter darkness of a stormy sea at night it is almost entirely painted in monochrome, the only colour comes from the moon behind the clouds. The detail of the steam ship is superb as is the choppy sea. The painting is sadly not signed or the signature is not easily visible, the work speaks for itself though in the quality of the hand. The painting has been mounted in a period gilt frame with double silvered slip. The whole is in good condition and the painting has been professionally cleaned. A fine marine painting.
