A very fine portrait.

Annie Simpson was a figure and miniature portrait painter and etcher.

It is recorded that she was living at 52, Prescott Street, Halifax in 1894, and from this address in 1896 she exhibited a miniature portrait of Marjory, daughter of W. Wilson at the Royal Academy.

By 1909 she was at Etaples, Pas de Calais, France and obviously continued to paint up to WWI. It seems that she also travelled, as there are some romantic views of North Africa and the Middle East recorded.

She exhibited her work widely in England; 11 at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; 4 at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts; 1 at the Goupil Gallery; 8 at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; 12 at the London Salon;

1 at Manchester City Art Gallery; 1 at the Royal Academy; 5 at Royal Society of British Artists; 2 at Royal Institute of Oil Painters and 1 at the Royal Scottish Academy.
