Description

A late 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a fine chestnut stallion with a white blaze and one white sock. It’s set within a traditional stable interior that includes a bucket monogrammed with the letters F.H.

The painting is signed ‘Albert Clark’ in the lower right but it’s unlikely to be by the well-known equestrian painter who lived between 1843 and 1928. However, it could possibly relate to a different Albert Clark that lived between 1867 and 1919. We’ve managed to track down another painting by this artist that bears the same signature.

Housed within a beautiful gilt frame with swept corners and foliate borders.

Size including frame: 29” x 23” / 74cm x 58cm

Year of creation: c. 1890

Condition: One patched repair to the reverse and corresponding touchups to the paint layer. The repair has caused a little undulation. Frame in good condition with light age-related wear.
