An exuberant and colourful expressionist equestrian scene by Pierre Gaillardot (1910 - 2002),painted with effortless elegance. As many of you interested in equestrian painting will know, Gaillardot is renowned for his depiction of horses and riders and jockeys and race tracks.

Originally from Burgundy, Gaillardot settled in Deauville, home to the first ranked race track in France, which opened in 1864. Complete with one of the largest horse training centres in Europe, Deauville is held in high esteem all over the world - and it proved an unending source of inspiration for Gaillardot.

Gaillardot was awarded in 1966 he was awarded the ‘Prix Pierre Puvis de Chavannes' upon the recommendation of the Committee of the ‘Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts’ and the City of Paris. A retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the ‘Musée d’Art Moderne’ in the City of Paris in 1967. His works appear for sale at the major international auction houses and reside in collections around the world.

Our joyful riders and horses is a landscape are painted in watercolour on paper. Dating from the early 1960s the work measures 24 x 32 cm. In its original frame, the overall framed size is frame 38 x 46 cm.
