A fine mid-19th-century self-portrait by Danish artist, Anders Christian Lunde (1809-1886). His contemplative expression and heavy eyes give the impression of a thoughtful character working tirelessly during the Golden Age of Danish painting.

Lunde studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and won two Silver Medals during his time there. He initially began exhibiting as a portrait painter but later switched to depicting countryside views around Denmark and Italy.

One of his works, a painting of Frederiksborg Castle, is currently held in the collection at the National Gallery of Denmark.

Condition: Very good condition overall. Frame with light age-related wear.

Artist’s auction highlight: £20,445 achieved for ‘Udsigt over Sorrentobugten’ (103cm x 69cm) in 2004.
