Description

A fine early 19th-century still life depicting an overflowing basket of apples, berries and pears. The artist has painted these beautifully and they appear as if freshly picked from a garden (perhaps they were).

Some of the apples have indentations from insect bites, which have been left in to keep the image feeling realistic and wholly natural. The addition of the green leaves adds another layer to this attractive basket of Italian fruit.

The painting is housed within an antique gilt composition frame.

Size including frame: 21½” x 19” / 55cm x 48cm x 4cm

Year of creation: c. 1800

Condition: A few minor paint losses but otherwise fine. Quite heavily varnished. Relined. The frame is a little tatty with losses, particularly in the back corners.
