An interesting 18th-century oil on canvas depicting several figures walking along a country track through a wooded area.

At least two of the figures are balancing supplies on their head so perhaps they’re returning home laden with goods. Within rural communities during the 18th-century women were often expected to transport bulky or heavy goods on foot - for example between the farm and the market. As such, many were taught how to balance pots, baskets and bundles securely on their head from an early age.

In this scene, one woman appears to be responsible for a wide basket containing pots and other items, while another is balancing a large container atop her head.

The painting is housed within an appropriate later frame.

Condition: Craquelure and some small paint losses. The canvas is a little undulant.
