Still Life Oil Painting by Faith Kenworthy-brown

A fine oil on board by Faith Kenworthy Brown 1882-1973. The painting shows an interesting arrangement of items obviously chosen for contrasting colours and textures. The whole has a typical early twentieth century feel about it, almost a Camden group look. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. It does bare an exhibition label on the reverse and is therefore obviously one of her exhibited works. The title on the reverse is also somewhat strangely 'The Agony in the Garden'. The painting is framed in a much earlier and fine quality Victorian gilt swept frame. This may well be the original frame as at this period artist's often reused old frames. The frame has been re-gilt at some point and this may well have been done by the artist for her painting. The work is initialled to the lower right, which is typical for the artist.

Faith Kenworthy-Brown is listed as a portrait, landscape and poster artist. She studied at Sir Arthur Cope's School and the London School of Art, and she later became art teacher at St. Alban's College in Saskatchewan, Canada. She exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and several others.

The whole is in excellent ready to hang condition and the combination of artwork and frame make a great decorative impact. C.1930.
