A fine oil on artists board of a Newfoundland type dog after the famous original by Sir Edwin Landseer titled: ‘A distinguished member of the humane society’. The work is as good a period copy of this famous painting as I have seen, with great detail and life of it’s own. The original painting is in the Tate collection and was exhibited in 1838 this copy would have been painted not too longer after this. The painting has been professionally cleaned, is mounted in a period gilt frame and is ready to hang. C.1850.
