Pair of Oil Paintings by Sidney Pike

A fine pair of oil on artist's board depicting highland scenes with cattle and sheep by the highly regarded Sidney Pike. The pair are painted in detail on a small scale, the animals are captured perfectly as are the misty weather conditions. One shows sheep being driven by a shepherd on a hillside, the other highland cattle in a valley bottom by the side of a loch. The paintings have both been professionally cleaned and are signed and dated to the lower left 1916.

Sidney Pike was a prolific landscape and genre artist exhibiting between 1880-1907, London based originally he seems to have lived around the south coast and eventually retired to the Lincolnshire coast where this work was painted. He exhibited 22 works at the Royal Academy which is a substantial amount, he also exhibited at The Royal Academy of British Artist and the Royal Society of Painters in Oils.

The pair are both mounted in period gilt frames and are ready to hang. A great decorative pair of paintings with a simple elegance.
