Oil Painting Of Sheep In Arundel Park By Sidney Pike

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine oil on artist''s board by highly regarded artist Sidney Pike. The painting which is beautifully worked on a small scale shows sheep sheltering in a gorse thicket on a hillside. I particularly like the way he has captured the light coming through the gorse, and the anatomically various positions of the sheep. The work has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The painting is signed to the lower left and dated 1916 and on the reverse has the title and artist''s address.

Sidney Pike was a prolific landscape and genre artist exhibiting between 1880-1907, London based originally he seems to have lived around the south coast and eventually retired to the Lincolnshire coast where this work was painted. He exhibited 22 works at the Royal Academy which is a substantial amount, he also exhibited at The Royal Academy of British Artist and the Royal Society of Painters in Oils.

The whole has the perfect period look and is framed in a period gilt frame.
