Oil Painting by John Rabone Harvey

A great oil on canvas by John Rabone Harvey, depicting a young man driving the cattle home through woodland. A lovely painting with a great use of light and dark that gives the whole a very atmospheric feel. The painting is signed to the lower left by the artist though it is difficult to see, thankfully it is also signed on the reverse and dated 1921. John Rabone Harvey was a well known pastoral and portrait artist who studied at the Slade School. He lived in Birmingham and exhibited 68 times there, as well as also exhibiting in Liverpool and the Royal Academy. He died in 1933.

The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work is in the original oak frame with silvered slip. The frame works really well with the painting, the dark oak and the silvered slip heightening the effect of light and dark in the painting.

The painting is in ready to hang condition and adds great dramatic decorative impact and has a warmth and feeling of peace about it.
