English School Mountainous Landscape with Figures, Antique Oil Painting

19th century
Description

An attractive view across a mountainous landscape towards a distant expanse of water, perhaps a loch. In the foreground, two figures stand by an old solitary shack, which must have such a beautiful outlook, particularly at this time of day.

This lovely old painting has darkened over time, which has added to its overall decorative charm. We love it exactly the way it is and, as such, have decided not to clean or restore it.

It’s housed within a chippy wooden and stucco frame with repeating decorative motifs and a label on the reverse dates the board to between 1828 and 1855.

Medium: Oil on board

Size including frame: 21” x 16½” / 53cm x 42cm

Year of creation: c. 1840

Condition: Quite tatty. Artwork with losses and areas that have darkened with age. Frame also with losses.
