Description

This little gem of a painting depicts the cliffs and the sea at Quiberville in Normandy, on a summer"s day in August 1906. Quiberville is not far from Dieppe, and only 6 miles from the artist's colony of Veule-les-Roses, where the Scottish Colourists Samuel Peploe and John Ducan Fergusson were painting exactly at that time.

A delightful plein air study, our oil on panel is clearly situated, dated and dedicated to "Mr et Mme Follion" on the verso, where it is also signed. However, I have found the artist's signature quite impossible to decipher!

Our panel measures 15.5 x 22 cm. The overall size including a simple frame is 21 x 27cm.

I have added to the photographs one of the cliffs at Quiberville the way they look today - you will notice that the landscape has hardly changed!
