It’s been created using egg tempera, which is an ancient medium that dates back to the 1st century and reached its peak popularity during the middle ages. Traditionally, it’s applied to a wooden panel and it’s unusual to find egg tempera applied to canvas as we see in this painting.
The reverse displays several illegible inscriptions, a French supplier’s stamp, and a date of 1906.
